Employee's prompt action leads to child porn ring bust
Authorities in Hystericsville, OH are crediting a child porn ring bust on the prompt action of an employee at a local retail chain store.
On Monday, Bonnie Purritan, an assistant supervisor at the local WalPorch, contacted police to say a customer was toting child porn around the store. Officers arrived at the store about 15 minutes later and confronted the suspect, 72-year old Pearl Buffenheine. After a routine tasering of Ms. Buffenheine, officers found on her person a large manilla envelope that contained a black and white portrait of an undressed infant sitting in a wash tub. The officers charged Bueffenheine with possession of child pornography. Later she was interviewed for some time by federal agents, and after an ambulance was called to take her to the hospital, detectives obtained a search warrant for a home on 114 South Elm Circle. After a thorough inspection of the home police arrested resident Chuck Delaney II, 81, who investigators say had child porn framed and sitting on his bedroom dresser. He has been charged with possession of illegal and deviant material, and both individuals face federal charges of running a child pornography ring.
Ms. Buffenheine's attorney, Lars Manatoni, says the charges are ludicrous.
"My client simply went into the WalPorch photo studio to ask if they could make a copy of a photograph her parents took of her almost seventy-two years ago," Manatoni charges. "She was going to give it to her boyfriend, Mr. Delaney, in exchange for a photograph of himself as a baby."
The federal attorney's office has declined to comment on the charges against the couple. In the meantime, WalPorch has awarded Ms. Purritan's sense of civic duty by making her Employee of the Year. The recognition comes with a $400 bonus.
Ms. Purritan tells the press that giving her the award was the "moral thing" for the chain store to do.
"And I intend to use the money to purchase a good night vision camera," Purritan says, "so I can keep an even more diligent eye on the activities of all my sick and twisted neighbors!"
